Sad News: Carol Lazarus (ret. 2000 FHS/Warde English)
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Carol Lazarus of Georgetown, Texas, born in Winfield, Kansas, who passed away on October 9, 2022 at the age of 77. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Carol Lazarus to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by : her parent E. W. Evans of Jackson. She is survived by : her husband Gary J. Lazarus; her mother Joyce Evans (Young) of Jackson, Tennessee; her sister Sherrie Haynes of Rogers, Arkansas; and her nephews, Matt Tyler of Jackson, Tim Tyler of Rogers, Phillip Tyler of Bradford and Jon Lazarus of Salem, Oregon..
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 15th 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Harper City Cemetery (121 NE 100 Rd, Harper, KS 67058).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary J. and Carol L. Lazarus Scholarship in Education at Kansas State University, 2323 Anderson Ave, Manhattan, Kansas 66502 or to the Gary J. and Carol L. Lazarus Scholarship Fund at Southwestern University, 1001 E University Ave, Georgetown, Texas 78626.

Sad News: Virginia Mullady passed Aug 28, 2022
Virginia Curran Mullady, age 89, the loving wife of the late Jack Mullady, died at her home in Niantic on August 28, 2022. The daughter of James and Marjorie Curran, she was born in Fairfield and attended Roger Ludlowe High School and Western Connecticut State College where she received her teaching degree. Prior to her retirement, she was a teacher with the Fairfield Public School system and a lifelong friend to Special Education students everywhere.
Virginia was active in bridge clubs, the Waterford Women’s Club, volunteered at the Waterford Community Center and enjoyed traveling and reading. She also loved to sew, knit, crochet, and quilt and was frequently found in the kitchen baking up delicious “homemade” cookies for her grandchildren.
She spent most of her life in Fairfield and was a woman who loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as her extended family and her friends, of which she had many. She had a plethora of adventures over the years with her best friend Gloria Osterberg (and Ken was never far behind).
Predeceased by her parents, and brothers, James and John, she is survived by her children, James Mullady, Sr. and his wife Alexa of Fairfield, Alison Mullady of Waterford, and Margaret Edwards of Danville, Vermont; her grandchildren, James Mullady, Jr. and his wife Jaclyn of Trumbull, Kaitlin Strobel and her husband Billy of Harrison, New York and Krissy Mullady of Denver, Colorado; her great grandchildren, Madison Mullady, Penelope Strobel, Jameson Mullady, and Stanley Strobel, and many nieces and nephews. Bambi, as she was known to her grandchildren, will be greatly missed by all those lucky enough to have known her.
Friends are invited to greet her family on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church with interment to follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Sad Newa:Bernice Rosch (ret Grade 4, 1994 Riverfield)
Bernice Miller Rosch, age 96, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2022. She was a beloved wife of 73 years, mother, mother-in-law, and sister. Originally from New York City, Bernice transferred from Hunter College to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a B.S. She was forever proud to be a "Badger," even attending her 70th Reunion! She attained post-graduate teaching certification at Hunter and a Master's in Education from Fairfield University. Bernice was an exemplary elementary school teacher in Fairfield for 30 years, enthusiastically devoted to inspiring academic success from her students at Holland Hill, North Stratfield, and Riverfield Schools until retirement in 1994. An avid international traveler, she brought the world to her classroom; after a Study Tour of Japan in 1985 via Fairfield University, she became the Coordinator of Japanese Study at North Stratfield School. Bernice was a member of the Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association, as well as the Association of Retired Teachers of Connecticut. Bernice and her husband were active for many years in the Institute of Retired Professionals at Fairfield University and were life-long learners, taking classes there until their late 80's. Gardening was a passion and she adored spending time with family, enjoyed opera and the ballet, and took decades of aerobics classes at the Westport YMCA. Bernice was a vibrant, stylish, quick-to-laugh, caring person, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. All services will be private. Sad News: Patricia O'Hearne (Tomlinson)
Patricia Johnston O’Hearne of Delray Beach, FL and formerly of Fairfield, CT and Boston, MA died surrounded by family Sunday, June 19 at the age of 84.
Pat was born in Brooklyn on April 9, 1938, to Patricia and Robert Emmett Johnston. The oldest of three daughters, she was 10 and 11 years older than her sisters and famously thought the elder was her 10th birthday present.
After high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, NY, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Barry University (then Barry College) in Miami, FL in 1959 and later a Master’s degree from Fairfield University. She was a loyal and proud alumna of her schools, particularly Barry where there is a scholarship in her name.
Pat met Dave O’Hearne in high school. After years of friendship, they began dating in her senior year of college and married on April 29, 1961. They moved often – sometimes across town, sometimes many states away. They lived in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut (four homes in same town!), Colorado, New Hampshire and ultimately Florida. With each move, Pat quickly created a warm and lovely home and began welcoming family and friends.
Pat was a force to be reckoned with – a natural leader with many passions, she worked as a journalist, teacher, bookstore owner and politician. She was also an enthusiastic traveler who particularly enjoyed Windstar Cruises and their biannual crossing between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
An ardent supporter of the Democratic Party, she once served as the Clerk in the Connecticut State Senate, and she volunteered extensively on campaigns in Connecticut, Colorado and Florida. She sent red, white and blue flowers to her grandchildren on their 18th birthdays to remind them to register to vote.
She was a devout Catholic, a longtime parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X in Fairfield and more recently at St. Lucy Catholic Church in Highland Beach.
She disliked “nonsense,” swearing, complainers and sitting still. She loved reading, making French toast and blueberry pancakes for her grandchildren, talking on the phone, gardening, going to tea and organizing a dinner to celebrate…almost anything. She was the proud Vice President of the Pat O’Hearne Club. With all that, she survived 84 years without being wrong once.
In addition to raising her three children, Pat was the indulgent mother and grandmother of many pets over the years, including her favorite dog, the late and greatly missed Dracula “Drac” O’Hearne.
She is survived by David B. O’Hearne, her beloved husband of 61 years; their children Brian O’Hearne, Mary O’Hearne and Jennifer Shepard; daughter-in-law Kerry Moynihan; son-in-law Michael J. Shepard; sisters Stefanie Gugelot and Mary Blum; brother-in-law Peter Blum; grandchildren CPL Patrick O’Hearne, USMC, Liam Shepard, Deirdre Shepard, ENS Aidan O’Hearne, USN and Brendan Shepard; nieces Deirdre Gugelot and Caitlin Moran; cousin Michael Botty and many other cousins who came after him; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; and countless friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 12 Noon at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 3510 South Ocean Blvd., Highland Beach, Florida. Burial service will follow at 2:30PM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7/441, Lake Worth, FL Lane 3

Sad News: Vinnie Antezzo ( ret.1997 PrincipalMcKinley)
Vincent James Antezzo passed away on
May 30, 2022, after a life well lived. Vin was born to Vincenzo and Clara (Messore) Antezzo in Bronx, NY on March 13, 1930. He was a product of the public school system, graduating from West Haven HS and New Haven State Teachers College. He earned an MS and
6th year from Fairfield Univ. Vin also served honorably in the US Navy Reserves. He was an educator for 45 years: 20 years teaching elementary school in Bridgeport, Milford and West Haven, before 25 years in administration in Fairfield, culminating in serving
as principal of McKinley School.
While principal, Vin helped Joy Shaw found the Mill River Wetland Committee. He assisted her in navigating the political process
within the school system. For over 50 years, the MRWC has exposed generations of children and their families to the value of watersheds, and to become advocates for protecting the environment.
Vin was an avid reader who enjoyed the outdoors, theater and music, especially Broadway show tunes which he taught his children and grandchildren to appreciate. Vin regularly enjoyed a Broadway show, a good meal, dancing and sparring
with friends over politics. He was an exceptionally talented handyman, a skill he also taught his children. Essentially, Vin dedicated his life to teaching in all his endeavors, always generous with sharing his many skills.
Vin was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his love of 27 years, Linda Mascendaro; his 5 children: Vincent, Christopher, Gina (Munck), Matthew and Jamie; their spouses;
his stepson Phil; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption,545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield

Sad News: Joseph Zapytowski (Superintendent FPS 1964-75)
Joseph S. Zapytowski, Sr., 97, died June 4, 2022.
Born in Detroit, MI, he was a resident of Hudson since 2013, and a WWII U.S. Army veteran. Joseph, a lifelong school superintendent, was most recently employed by Grand Haven Area Public Schools in Michigan. He
retired from them in 1990. He was an avid boater and sailor nearly his entire life, navigating most of the Great Lakes, Long Island Sound, the Mississippi River, the Gulf of Mexico, and much of the Atlantic seaboard.
Preceded in death by wife, Jean Zapytowski; daughter, Carrie Jo Zapytowski; brother, John Zapytowski, and half-sister, Helene Greniewicki. He is survived by his sons, Stephen M. (Bernadine), Mark,
and Joseph (Julie Harris) Zapytowski, Jr.; grandchildren, S. Michael (Breann), Catherine, Isabel, and Clover Zapytowski; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Stella, and Robbie Zapytowski; and

Sad news: John Stamos (ret.1985 S Studies AWHS)
John Stamos, age 90, of Trumbull passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 5, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Grace (Colello) Stamos. Born in Bridgeport
on July 12, 1930, he was a son of the late Samuel and Katherine (Andrew) Stamos. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he had served honorably during the Korean War. John went on to earn a Teaching Degree from Southern CT State Teachers College and obtained
his Graduate Teaching Degree from Fairfield University. John was a U.S. History Teacher at Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, with over 25 years of dedicated service before his retirement. He loved being an educator; it was more than a job, it was his
vocation in life, and to this day his former students share fond memories and warm sentiments from when John was their teacher. John also found great pleasure in going to the beach despite his disdain for cold water temperatures. Two of his favorite places
to visit with family were Watch Hill, RI and yearly trips to Tarpon Springs, FL. He also loved playing cards in his beloved "cabin by the lake" - a small shed near a pond in his backyard - where he would often get lovingly teased by his sons and closest friends.
He was an avid bocce player and enjoyed partaking in a "whisper" of scotch with family and friends alike. His older grandkids warmly recall him visiting - unannounced, per his style - to share one of these famous "whispers" on occasion.
John's greatest enjoyment however was found in the time he spent with his family. John was eternally devoted to and treasured his wife of 70 years, Grace, and was indelibly proud of the family
he created with her. He was a loving husband, father, Popi, Great Popi, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition
to his beloved wife, Grace, John is survived by his three loving sons, John M. Stamos, Stephen C. Stamos and his wife Julie, and Chris J. Stamos and his wife Elizabeth; his cherished grandchildren Jessica Ramirez and her husband Nathan, Kirk Stamos and his
wife Amy, Kali Bronski and her husband Robert, Jake Stamos, and Connor Stamos; and his adored great-grandchildren Bennett and Nora Ramirez, and Sloan Stamos. John is also survived by his brother, Peter Stamos, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased
by his brother, Harry Stamos.
Due to the concerns affecting us all at this time surrounding social gatherings, all funeral services and interment with full military honors will be held privately for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Melissa's Project, 175 Church
