Paul Rydelek, Beloved Husband of Kathy Rydelek
Paul Roscoe Rydelek, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022, at St Joseph's Manor in Trumbull. Born on November 7, 1931, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Catherine "Kittie" Rydelek and Alexander Rydelek. Paul graduated from Milford High School and then went on to attend the University of Connecticut where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked as an Industrial Engineer and then as a Purchasing Manager at H.B. Ives in New Haven. Paul loved sports and played basketball in high school. Throughout the years, he found great enjoyment in watching UConn Men's and Women's Basketball. He was also an avid golfer and was recognized by the PGA for his hole in one. Paul enjoyed traveling with his wife Katherine. They spent many winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. He especially enjoyed his trip across the US to California, and his trip to France, Italy, and England with a return trip on the Queen Mary 2. Paul will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine DeMayo Rydelek, his loving children; Gregory Paul Rydelek and his wife Kimberly of Trumbull, and Laura Rydelek Fitzgerald and her husband Lawrence of East Lyme, as well as his four cherished grandchildren; Alexander Rydelek, Kara Rydelek, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Evan Paul Fitzgerald. Friends and family may visit on Monday, May 23rd from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. There will be a prayer service at 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.

Sad News- Megalene Bowling, beloved wife of Wiley Bowling
Magalene L. Bowling
On December 17, 2021, Magalene Bowling, entered into eternal rest. Magalene was born August 23, 1930 in Greensboro, NC to Theresa Mae and Daniel Lawson Lee, Sr. She graduated from NC A&T State
University, where she met and married the love of her life, Wiley Bowling, Jr. They had two children, Mark and Joyce. Magalene spent the majority of her career as a teacher in the Milford, CT public schools, and later ran a training program at the YWCA for
homemakers entering the workforce. After her retirement, Magalene and Wiley moved to Bowie, MD. Throughout her life, Magalene was active in her church, her college alumni association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and the Links, Inc. She was also passionate
about improving educational opportunities in her community and promoting financial literacy, and was an avid bridge player and international traveler. Magalene is survived by her husband, daughter Joyce, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a host of relatives
and friends. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1510 9th St, NW, Washington, DC 2001.Viewing will

Sad News: Ellen Costa, Beloved sister of Cissy Hudzik and Par Ness
Ellen H. Costa of Fairfield, CT, passed away at home on Friday, December 31, 2021 with the loving support of her family.
Ellen was born in Bridgeport, CT’s east side on March 28,1933 to Pauline and Michael Hudzik. She grew up in a close-knit immigrant neighborhood; making friendships that lasted her lifetime.
Ellen graduated from St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Elementary School and Harding High School in Bridgeport. Exceptionally bright, Ellen skipped two elementary grades and entered college at age 16. She attended the University of Bridgeport, graduating with honors in the first graduating class of the New Fones School of Dental Hygiene - not only the first dental hygiene school in CT, but also the world. As a dental hygienist, Ellen worked for the City of Bridgeport’s Department of Health responsible for 5 public and Catholic schools. The children she served came from the same neighborhoods where she had grown up and later worked as a summer playground leader during her college years.
In 1953, Ellen married Frank J. Costa, a teacher, and later moved to Fairfield where they raised five children. Ellen was a loving wife and mother dedicated to her family. Their home was a gathering place for their large extended family and friends. She was a great cook and family meals were an important part of daily life; with always enough for unexpected guests. Family vacations to Cape Cod - including with her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends - ensured that relationships remained close through the years. Ellen was mother to many beyond her own children, to those who sought her welcome embrace and wise council. Her kindness and strength, empathy and compassion, earned her respect and love by all who knew her.
Ellen’s creative talent had a practical bent: she sewed, knitted and crocheted for the family at large and her lovely oil paintings adorned the walls of her home. She loved to read, learn new things, do crossword puzzles and engage her mind in problem solving. As a second career, Ellen returned to work in the Fairfield Public Schools, in both Fairfield Ludlowe and Warde High Schools, helping to instruct and support students with learning challenges.
As faith was an essential part of her life, Ellen was actively involved in Our Lady of the Assumption Church for over 65 years. In addition to attending weekly Mass and enrolling her children in their Catholic elementary school, Ellen served on the Church Board as a lay member; worked on numerous committees and fundraisers and served as a leader in the Emmaus Youth Retreat Program. For decades, she served as an Eucharistic Minister and sang in the Resurrection Choir for funerals. Music remained an important part of her life and Andrea Bocelli and Il Volo, in particular, serenaded the family during COVID’s long quarantines.
Ellen was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank J. Costa; daughter, Ellen M. Costa; parents, Michael and Pauline Hudzik; and sisters, Mary Alice Hudzik and Paula Gallagher. Survivors include her children: Michele M. Costa (Juan J. Callejas) of Astoria, NY; Charles C. Costa (Sue Canavari) of Eastham, MA; Susan M. Costa and Patty Costa of Monroe, CT; grandchildren, Christine N. Costa (Stephen Cohen) of Allston, MA and Matthew Costa (Anna Mattox) of Hartford, CT; siblings: Patricia H. Ness (Philip Ness) of Pittsburgh, PA; Cecilia R. Hudzik of Fairfield, CT; Michael G. Hudzik (Sue Hudzik) of Trumbull, CT; brother-in-law, James W. Gallagher of Simsbury, CT and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.

Sad News: Alex Gribko, Brother to Dick Gribko
Alexander "Alex" Gribko Jr., Age 85 died suddenly on November 30th. He was born in Bridgeport CT to Irene (Roscoe) and Alexander Gribko Sr. He was the youngest of 3 brothers, Bob (deceased) and Richard (CT). He attended Roger Ludlow high school where he was an athlete and track star. He attended UConn and received a degree in Agriculture.
After high school he married Marcy Wharton and they had 3 daughters Betsy, Karen, and Melinda. He worked in Sales and found his niche in Real Estate. He has been a Cape Codder for 60+ years living in Hyannisport, Dennisport and Yarmouth. He met his 2nd wife Janet Grant, and they were married in 1979. He and Janet happily traveled the world for many years. 1st in their beloved sailboat "The Fantasy" and later traveled the U.S. and Europe by motor home and car.
All of his life he loved the outdoors. He would spend weekends with his daughters teaching them to ski, swim, scuba dive, bike ride, and of course, tennis. He played tennis all of his life. At 85 he still played 3x week. He loved walking. It became more special when he adopted his beloved dog Scooter. In 2012 Alex lost his true love, Janet. Scooter became his dedicated companion. In 2015 he met a very special lady, Betsy Donovan who filled his life with love and happiness. He was truly an enthusiastic and outgoing man who loved talking, swapping stories, and telling jokes. He was truly a man who exemplified a life well lived.
Alex is survived by his brother Dick, his daughters Betsy Hunt (Richard), Karen Warren, and Melinda Gribko-Reyes (David). His grandchildren Rachael Hunt (Mike), Kelly Cormier (Ben), Katie Cormier, Tommy Graham, Harry Graham, Tiesha Reyes Flores (JeanCarlos), Ricardo Reyes, and his 2 great granddaughters Ilaina and Marina Flores.
There is a Celebration of Life being held on Sunday from 3-5 at Nickerson Funeral Home on Crowell Road in Chatham. Please join us in embracing him and his life. Donations in his name can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston (Brewster location).

Sad News: Jerry Kuroghlian (husband to Ellen Kuroghlian
Gerald E Kuroghlian Ph.D. of Fairfield passed away on Nov. 17, 2021.
The life of Gerald (Jerry) Kuroghlian traveled the roads of learning and teaching. Born in Bridgeport on April 15, 1945, to his first educators, Stephen and Eva Shankman Kuroghlian, Jerry was introduced to a world of reading and educational travel. Weekly family Sunday trips to his grandmother in New York City were followed by visits to museums, zoos, Central Park and church concerts. Jerry was mentally nurtured by excellent teachers at The McKinley School and Andrew Warde High School. Jerry continued his love of learning at the University of Virginia, where he received his B.A. in English. His favorite memory at Virginia was to watch the sun rise while sitting on the roof of the Rotunda. He earned an M.A. in American Studies from Fairfield University and his Ph.D. in Curricular Studies from the University of Illinois. Dr. K, as he was known by his adoring students, relished the 43 years he taught at Staples High School, as a member of a stellar staff. He loved the classroom that contained programs from the hundreds of plays he attended with his classes and the students who daily enriched and confirmed his vocation. In 2004, Kuroughlian was named the Westport Teacher of the Year and in 2005 was the runner-up as Connecticut Teacher of the Year. Upon retiring in 2009, Jerry taught English as a Second Language to the hard-working women of the Mercy Learning Center and served as a college counselor and writing coach at Kolbe Cathedral High School, where 100 percent of the senior class annually went on to higher education. He gained knowledge from those he taught. Dr. K also supervised student teachers receiving a Master’s in English Education for Sacred Heart University. After teaching Homer’s The Odyssey for four decades, his retirement trip following the path of Odysseus was the penultimate voyage of his life. Dr. K was active in professional organizations as a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa, from which he received the 1991 Educator of the Year award.
He was the president of the Connecticut Council of Teachers of English as well as Exhibit Chair of the New England Council of Teachers of English, which honored him with the Charles Swain Thomas award. Kuroghlian served as the New England representative to the National Council of teachers of English. Kuroghlian served as the New England representative of the National Council of Teachers of English as Chair of the 50 States Affiliates of NCTE. Dr. K also served as the NCTE’s Resolutions Chair for over 20 years. He was secretary, treasurer and vice president of the Westport Education Association. The Sportsmen of Westport honored him with the 2006 Citizenship Award for his work with the Westport youth. Dr. Kuroghlian served on several committees for Fairfield education, including the building committee for Andrew Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe high schools. He and his wife were solid supporters of Fairfield public schools. As an active member of First Church Congregational, Dr. Kuroghlian participated willingly on the outreach and annual book sale activities of the church. Jerry’s sister Shelley, two years his junior, served as a lifelong mentor, supporter and critic. The true love and joy of his life, whom he married in 1978 after a 10-year courtship, was his wife, Ellen Rea Green, whose love transcends death. They shared a passion for music, theater, travel and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where they resided each summer.
Jerry is survived by his wife Ellen, sister Shelley and nephew Kent Green of Boulder, CO, as well as many Kuroghlian and Shankman cousins and their families. “Uncle Jerry” will be remembered by the children of his life; longtime friends, now deceased, John and Jim Lehaney; niece Erin (Bryan) Lehaney Myers and “nephews” Jim and Christopher (Amy) Lehaney; “niece” Michelle (Sabri) Khessibi; and “nephew” John Lehaney, as well as many grand nephews and nieces. He also leaves a legacy of thousands of students whom he loved for their willingness to learn and make a better world. As Geoffrey Chaucer noted, “Gladly did he learn and gladly teach.”
Calling hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center and a Memorial Service will take place at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield, on Saturday at 2 p.m (Face masks are required for church service).

Sad News: Paula Gallalgher, beloved sister of Cissy Hudzik
Paula (Hudzik) Gallagher, 84, passed away at home in Simsbury on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 surrounded her children and beloved husband of 60 years, James W. Gallagher. Paula was born May 11, 1937 and was a graduate of Harding High School in Bridgeport and Connecticut Teachers College (now CCSU). She was executive accountant for Connecticut Building Specialties, and member of St. Mary's Church and Hop Meadow Country Club. Paula enjoyed bowling, golf and, most especially, spending time with her cherished grandchildren Waide, Wyatt, Brendan, Aidan, Declan, Emmett, Melissa, Amanda, Alexa and Evan. In addition to her husband Jim, Paula is survived by her children, Mary Gallagher of Los Angeles, CA, James Jr. (Stacie) of Simsbury, Michael (Margaret) of Simsbury, and Gregory (Christine) of East Granby; and her siblings, Patricia Ness (Phil) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ellen Costa of Fairfield, Cecilia Hudzik of Fairfield, and Michael Hudzik (Susan) of Trumbull. Paula was also the proud aunt to 13 treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Pauline (Palowski) Hudzik and sister, Mary Alice. The family will receive friends during a walk through visitation on Wednesday, May 26th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 27th at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Masks are required at church. Sad Nws: Carol Vanoitis, Beloved Wife of Bill Vanoitis
Carol Cockerill Vaniotis was taken by the lord on January 9, 2021. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on April 30, 1941, the daughter of the
late Harold Ellsworth and Ruth Estelle (Ryder) Cockerill. In 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, best friend, first love and soulmate, William Vaniotis, who will always be in her heart. They raised their family in Huntington, CT.
She is survived by daughters Christine Ruggiero and her husband Dominic and Marijane Papanikolaou and her husband Alexandros, grandchildren Maria Alexia and Lia Carol Vaniotis,
and Sofia Carol and Nikos Socrates Papanikolaou, and great-grandson, Peter Michael Watts and his father Michael. She is also survived by godchildren Cassandra Vaniotis and Samuel Miller. She was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Ann Wheeler Grubbs.
Carol was very family orientated, and she was an integral part of her daughters' and grandchildren's lives. She truly cherished her grandchildren. They all called her
"Yiayia" and brought great joy to her. Some of the happiest years of her life were spent with her beloved grandchildren, especially watching them after school, helping them with homework and school projects, and going to school activities, dance performances
and soccer games. She wrote a storybook for each of the grandchildren when they were born. Her husband's family loved Carol and considered her a part of their immediate family.
Carol loved all animals, especially her pet dogs, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and making craft projects with her family.
Carol
also loved music. She trained in voice lessons and sang with the Huntington Congregation Church Choir since high school. After marriage, Carol sang for 50 years with the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Choir and enjoyed singing with the Greek Coral Group. Her
strong faith and her goal to return to choir gave her the strength to endure her battle with poor health.
Everyone enjoyed Carol's English specialties, especially
her Yorkshire pudding. She became very fond of Greek food as Greek culture became a big part of her life. She always said that she is Greek in Spirit. Carol's favorite vacations were taking cruises with her husband. She graduated from Shelton High School and
attended Willimantic Teachers College.
Friends are invited to go directly to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport on Wednesday,
January 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. where the Rite of Burial will be officiated by Father Georgios Livaditis with interment immediately following in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service in

Nicole Geiling, daughter of Carole (Geiling) Maravich
Nicolle Geiling (Nicki) of Fairfield, CT departed this world on the evening of Wednesday, January 13, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Nicolle is the loving daughter of Carole Maravich, the proud sister of Craig Maravich, and the wonderful niece of Joyce Scursatone. She was born in New York Hospital in Manhattan, NY on August 21, 1977. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Ann and Nick Maravich, and her loving uncle, Clyde "Victor" Scursatone. Nicolle brought joy to everyone she had the pleasure of meeting. She was the life of the party, always singing and dancing. Each time she entered a room with her infectious laughter, sense of humor, and smile, she ignited a spark in people. Nicolle embodied acceptance and forever rooted for the underdog while never passing judgment. She truly made the world a better place. Nicolle was a lover of the arts with a particular passion for theatre and Broadway. She was in the audience of countless Broadway shows and concerts. There wasn't a word in any song or show that she didn't know! New York City was her favorite haunt. She could always be found kneeling at the foot of the Pieta in St. Patrick's Cathedral. She and her dearest friend and love of her life, Josh O'Neil were regulars at local movie theaters and restaurants. They attended many plays, dances at Chapel Haven, and black tie events together. Nicolle was a natural performer with the ability to memorize and wow any crowd. She performed a one-woman show that told of her life and views on self-advocacy and acceptance of all people. She cherished moments dancing and singing with her family and loved exercising and working out. She could be seen taking her brisk walks while listening to her favorite music. Nicki loved people and making friends. Nicolle graduated from Fairfield High School in 1997. Following graduation she spent a year of post-secondary education at The Riverview School in East Sandwich, Cape Cod, Mass. Upon her return to Fairfield, she was hired at The GAP in Fairfield where she was an employee for 19 years. She took classes at Housatonic College earned an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Gateway Community College. She worked for 10 years at Borders Books in Fairfield in the children's department and presented a weekly story hour for young children. She also volunteered at the Fairfield Library weekly. With a heart that brimmed with kindness and empathy, Nicolle embraced advocacy work. She was a key voice on the board of the CT Self Advocacy Task Force in Hartford. She was the national representative and Poster Child for the National Down Syndrome Society and helped to lobby and educate those in Washington D.C. to support the Work Incentives Improvement Act. Her trip to Capitol Hill and personal appointments with our state senators and congressmen there along with Senator Ted Kennedy were sources of pride for Nicolle. She was responsible for encouraging Senator Lieberman to sign the Work Incentives Improvement Act Bill! Nicolle was honored on a national level for her civic engagement. She was the guest speaker and honored at the NDSS Women's Luncheon in NYC along with two other honorees, Doris Kearns Goodwin and Anna Quinlan. Nicolle also had other public speaking engagements to share her beliefs in Self Advocacy and acceptance of all peoples. Nicolle had an unwavering commitment to her Serbian Orthodox faith. She proudly and lovingly attended St. Dimitri Church in Easton, CT and was a lifelong member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, PA. Nicolle's family and especially Nicolle herself would like to thank the caregivers: Lily, Virginia, Joana, Dionne, and Susi, who were Nicki's friends and unselfishly traveled this journey with her. Nicolle is survived by her mother and proud guardian Carole Maravich; brother, Craig Maravich; aunt, Joyce Scursatone (Tete); sister- in- law, Sarah; and niece, Imogen Maravich; father, J. Douglass Geiling, and her long-time love, Josh O'Neill. John Thomas Morken
May 27, 1948 ~ November 4, 2020 (age 72)
John Thomas Morken died peacefully at his home with his loving wife and beloved animals by his side after a long illness. He is the son of Donald and Roberta Morken. He leaves behind his wife Patricia Morken of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; his daughter, Amy Morken Flynn and her husband Colin Flynn and grandson Rowan Flynn as well as his son, Andrew Morken.
John had a long career in International banking and lived all over the world. He received his Bachelor's degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and went on to receive his Master's degree at Johns Hopkins University. Later in life John, had his own business which he thoroughly enjoyed. Upon retirement, John relocated to Murrells Inlet for his love of golf. He went on and founded and developed The Arts Grand Strand nonprofit website. His work involved promoting all cultural arts and is very well known and, it is appreciated among the local artists along the Strand. He worked tirelessly to build the website in order to promote all cultural arts, artists, musicians and theater professionals to assist them with gaining as much exposure as possible. John’s legacy will continue as Bill Miller will be assuming the position of administrator of the website. John had numerous interests which included his love of playing classical music. John and Patti enjoyed traveling and golfing together with their former collie dogs Augustus, George and currently Oliver. John will be deeply missed by his family and remembered for his unique, humble and gracious, personality.
A memorial service is planned for March 2021. Those details will be announced when finalized.

Sad News: William Walton, beloved son of Ruth Walton
William E. Walton, 64, passed on October 18, 2020. Bill was a 1974 graduate of Andrew Warde H.S. in Fairfield, received his B.S. in zoology from U.R.I. in 1978, and his Ph.D.in zoology/aquatic ecology at U.Md. in 1986. Bill was a full professor in the Entomology Department at UC Riverside and had been serving as Vice-Chair. He was an internationally respected scientist and an award-winning teacher of undergrads and graduate students. Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years Peggy; son Tyler; mother Ruth D. Walton (wife of the late Edward H .Walton, Jr); sister Susan Walton Peck and husband Harold A. Peck III; nieces and nephews. Sad News:John Paul Barnoski, father of Diane Harrison
John Paul Barnoski "Barney" passed at age 92 on October 30,
2020, at The Carolton in Fairfield, Connecticut. John was born on May 21, 1928 in Scranton, PA to the late John and Blanche Misiewicz Barnoski where he resided until age 12 at which time the family moved to Bridgeport, CT. He received an education
in Bridgeport and worked after school at Logan Brothers, Westinghouse, and The Bullard Company. John enlisted in the Navy in 1945 where he served as a Fire Controlman Petty Officer First Class in WWII and the Korean War. Upon his discharge he returned to Bridgeport
where he joined The Bullard Company in the Service and Engineering Departments.
During a furlough John met and married his loving wife of 58 years, the late
Wanda Savich Barnoski. He and Wanda enjoyed raising their family at their home in Fairfield, CT, and their summer lakeside "lodge" that they designed and built together in Holmes, NY. As a true Renaissance man, John not only constructed his lakeside retirement
home and future additions, but he also built massive stone walls around the property as well as fieldstone walls to retain the sloping land along the beach. Professional masons who viewed his work were astounded that he had no formal training. Everything he
learned was from reading books since he was an avid reader throughout his lifetime. Since John's work required extensive travel throughout the country, he learned to decompress by painting, creating stain glass panels, and wood carving using a chainsaw. One
wood creation was featured in Birds and Blooms magazine while a hand-painted fabric quilt was awarded a ribbon by the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild. In the later years of his life when he resided at Teresian Towers in Trumbull, he became well-known as
The Painter and was a featured artist at an art exhibit at Trumbull Town Hall at age 90. He painted hundreds of paintings for over a decade that he gave to visitors, family, friends, and complete strangers as a reminder to all that life does not end at a certain
age or because of an ailment or two. On the back of every canvas he wrote, "It has been said, THE BEST GIFT IS THE ONE YOU DIDN'T EXPECT TO RECEIVE."
John
is survived by his loving daughter, Diane Harrison and her husband Jeffrey of Holmes, NY, his son, Daniel John Barnoski of Trumbull, CT, his beloved grandson, Jonathan B. Harrison and his wife Dr. Cristina Fox of Valparaiso, IN, along with four nieces and
three nephews and their families. He was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor Majkut, and Dorothy Mileski, as well as brother, Richard Berns.
Friends and family are invited to attend a socially distanced graveside service and internment with full military honors at St. Joseph of Stratford National Catholic Church Cemetery at 1300 Stratford Road, Stratford, CT, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday,

December 3, 1940 ~ August 1, 2020 (age 79)
To every follower of the Lord there comes a time when the voice of God will say, “Welcome Home.” On August 1, 2020, Martha Pittman Tavares was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father to join Him and her ancestors. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia on December 3, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Rebecca Pittman. Martha was educated in the Roanoke Virginia public schools, graduating from Lucy Addison High School. She attended Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tennessee, transferring to and graduating from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, CT. Martha taught in the Bridgeport Public Schools, leaving after three years to start a family. After raising her two children, she returned to the work force, working at Pitney Bowes until her retirement in January 2000.
Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed socializing and entertaining family and friends, especially during the holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, over the years, she was active in several civic organizations. But by far, her favorite organizations were Jack and Jill of America, Incorporate and The Links, Incorporated. She served as president of the Bridgeport Chapter of Jack & Jill from 1981-1984. She was one of the organizers of the Milford, CT Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. During the more than 30 years of membership in the Links, she has served as president, vice-president, and chairperson of several of the program facets.
Martha lived life passionately as a good wife, loving mother, grandmother and as a committed friend. She leaves to cherish in her memory, her husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Lisa Tavares Bodiford (Christopher) of Bowie, MD and a son Stephen (Bridgit) of New Hartford, CT. Three grandsons, Justin and Brandon Tavares, Carter Bodiford, and a granddaughter Mackenzie Bodiford. She also leaves two sisters, Shirley Charles of Baltimore, MD and Carolyn Mency (Romie) of Richmond Hills, GA; a brother, Warren Woods (Geneva) of Roanoke, VA, a sister-in-law Madalyn Tavares of Apache Junction, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Fannie (Flossie) Spriggs, and her brother, Joseph Woods.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT. Masks and social distancing will be required. Due to gathering size limitations, only 100 people will be allowed in the church at a time. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be private. Sad News: Elizabeth Turrell, mother to June MacKenzie 7/27/2019
Elizabeth Gombos Turrell, age 98, beloved wife of the late George Joseph Turrell, entered into
eternal life on July 27th. The daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Gombos, "Betty" was a lifelong resident of her treasured town of Fairfield. She is cherished by her two loving daughters, Elizabeth Turrell Kocaba and her husband, Robert, of Trumbull and
June Turrell MacKenzie and her husband Malcolm of Fairfield, five grandchildren, James Kocaba and his wife, Susan, of Madison, CT, Julie Leonard and her husband Patrick, of Larchmont, NY, Anna Zamat and her husband, Michael, of Fairfield, Alyson Karnath and
her husband, Alex, of Alameda, CA, and Mallory Young and her husband Ryan, of New York City. Betty has nine great-grandchildren - Matthew, Gunnar, Alexandra, and Blake Leonard, Owen and Drew Kocaba, Samuel and William Zamat, and Luke Karnath. Betty is also
survived by her brother, Daniel Harold Gombos of Woodbury, her sister-in-law, Helena Pajolek of Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews. Betty's passions were her family, faith and service to others. She was an officer and member of countless organizations.
Her church life at Calvin United Church of Christ included a lifetime of teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir and involvement in all church functions. Betty taught weekday religious school in the Greater Bridgeport area and
was involved in the Council of Churches. Betty was also involved in the Church Women United, founded in 1941, which was an ecumenical movement comprised of women regardless of race or denomination which provided a place of fellowship and understanding. Betty
was also actively involved with the Southport Women's Club, founded in 1915, which provided her and the other members with stimulating social and cultural conversations, as well as opportunities to improve the community. Betty highly valued education and was
an active member and officer of Parent Teacher Associations. At age 60, Betty founded a nursery school at Calvin United Church. For ten years, her classes overflowed with three and four year olds. She created a loving environment in which she promoted a love
of learning and practices of kindness with her cherished little ones and their families. In 1975, Betty was honored with the Connecticut Mother or the Year Award for her exemplary service to a wide range of organizations and people in her community and state.
Betty gently wove her family and friends into her volunteer work by appointing herself the designated driver to all would be volunteers who couldn't drive. She filled her car with people who wanted to sing in the choir, help out with programs and cheerfully
led the way. Her unconditional "Yes, sure!" response to any call for assistance inspired others to do the same. Her cheerful nature along with her positive energy, deep and wide faith in God and his love were infectious. Her family was the primary recipient
of her greatest love –with her time and attention. She placed her family first and worked, walked and thought quickly, running circles around most of us while cooking chicken paprikas, writing love notes, baking Hungarian confections and gathering us
for family time around the dining table, complete with her arranged flowers for Sunday dinner. Betty was always available to her family, caring for us in every way and demonstrating that nothing was ever too much trouble. She lived from a place of love. We
were so proud of her and happy to share "Mrs. Turrell" with the world. "God Bless You Always, Mother," Your loving family. Funeral services were held privately in the

It is with great sadness the family of Jean Dickerson Zapytowski, 91, of Hudson, Ohio announces
that she passed away on May 7, 2019 in Akron. Jean was born in Bellville, Michigan to Harry and Ruth on March 17, 1928. Upon the death of her mother, Jean and her sisters went to live with her uncle and aunt, Clark and Mary Dickerson. Jean graduated from Reed
City High School in 1946 and went on to earn her BS from Central Michigan University in 1950 and her MA from Fairfield University in 1975. She met Joe at the first fall dance at Central Michigan University in 1946 and they married in June 1950 in Mount Pleasant,
Michigan. Jean worked as a teacher for special education on the junior high level for Muskegon School system in Michigan for ten years. Jean enjoyed boating and traveling and was devoted to her family. Jean will be fondly remembered by her beloved husband,
Joe of Hudson; and her loving sons, Stephen (Bernadine) Zapytowski, Mark Zapytowski, and Joe Jr. (Julie Harris) Zapytowski; proud grandmother to S. Michael (Breann), Catherine, Joey and Clover; and great-grandmother of Sofia, Stella, and Robbie. Jean was preceded
in death by her daughter, Carrie; parents, Harry and Ruth Ann; uncle, Clark and aunt, Mary; sisters, Betty Lou and Kathleen; brothers, John, Jay, and James Clark. Friends are invited to Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, OH, where Jean's funeral service

Bruce Seaburg, beloved husband of Janet Seaburg (ret.McKinley, art)
Bruce John Seaburg (the Viking) passed away in his home surrounded by family on January 7,2019.
This journey has ended - and a new one to begin.
Bruce was born
in Mt. Vernon, NY on June 25, 1935, son of Harold Ernest Seaburg and Gertrude Lundquist Seaburg. As a toddler, they moved to Fairfield, CT. He graduated co-valedictorian from Rodger Ludlowe High School in 1953. Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport became a
very important part of his life. He graduated from Upsala College in 1957 where he was in the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, a national service fraternity. This theme of service became an important part of his career and life. Bruce spent countless hours coaching
baseball, as a band parent, playing tennis, cheering on his Dodgers, camping, fishing, cutting the lawn on his John Deere, cruising the lake in the Whaler, reading and relaxing by the lake with their dog Spirit.
He was the chairman of the blood program for the American Red Cross having donating over 18 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. After college, he served in the U.S. Army, Special Intelligence Agent in Europe
from 1957 - 1960. He worked for Southern New England Telephone Company from 1962 - 1991 as a district manager. After retiring he moved to Vermont where he continued his service by volunteering at the Maritime Museum in Vergennes, VT, eventually becoming an
employee as operations manager and volunteer coordinator.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Schnable Seaburg, his children Kristin S. Laberge
and her husband Jim of Ferrisburgh, VT, son Kyle B. Seaburg and wife Sara of Stratford, CT and four grandchildren Madison and Katelyn (Kristin and Jim) and Braydon and Logan (Kyle and Sara). He is also survived by extended family members from California to
Maine and overseas to Sweden. A celebration of his life will be held at the "Cottage" on the lake Saturday, June 29, 2019. Friends and family are welcome to come
and honor Bruce, Lovey, Dad, Pops, Poppy and Gee (details to follow).

their dream on Lake Champlain in Vermont. They were married for 56 years.
Bruce graduated from Roger Ludlow High School in 1953 as did his daughter (1982) and son (1985). Kristin, her husband Jim, and daughters Maddie and Katie live in Ferrisburg, VT. Kyle, a Norwalk High School teacher, lives in Stratford CT with his wife Sara and sons Braydon and Logan.

May 23, 1968 - October 31, 2018 Marcus Matthew Sabol, age 50, of Plainville, husband of Carmen Santana, passed away October 31, 2018. Marcus was born on May 23, 1968 in Bridgeport, son of Joseph (Lorraine) Sabol and Joann (Alan) Wood. Marcus attended Fairfield Public Schools, was a graduate of Andrew Warde High School, Class of 1986 where he was a member of the football team. He was a graduate of Porter and Chester and earned a degree in Computer Programming. His professional career included: Network Manager at Southern New England Telephone Company and IBM for many years, he owned his own businesses "Computers R Us" and "Quick Connect Computers". Marcus was a Little League standout as a boy. He was a lifetime Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Orioles fan. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and attending baseball card and sports memorabilia shows. His passion were fresh-water fly fishing for trout and deep sea fishing for marlin. He loved his pugs, Pugsley, Thumper, and Woody. Survivors, in addition to his wife and parents include his precious and beloved daughter, Nikola, and her mother Enkelejda Trifoni, sister, Jessica Lanza (Robert) and their children (Salvatore and Sofia); brother, Justin (Tammy) and their children (Mitchell and Abigail) and stepchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins, Funeral arrangements will be private. Dennis Peter O'Rourke May 15, 1943 - June 28, 2018
Dennis Peter O’Rourke passed away at the age of 75 at his home on June 28 in Leland, NC.He was born in Yonkers, NY, on May 15, to the late Joseph and Anne O’Rourke. He had been a resident of Fairfield for 30 years and was the beloved husband of Brenda O’Rourke for the last 47 years. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers, NY and served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1966. After he was discharged, he worked as the Manager of Facilities at IBM and later as a Director of Facilities at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He retired with his wife to Leland, NC in 2013. He loved playing golf, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a man of great faith and an involved parishioner in both Fairfield and Wilmington, NC.
He is survived by his wife Brenda O’Rourke of Leland, NC; two children Michael O’Rourke of Apex, NC and Suzie Minogue of Fairfield; sister Diane O’Rourke of Yonkers; five grandchildren, Patrick, Keri and Sean O’Rourke, all of Apex, NC, Teagan and Scarlett Minogue, both of Fairfield.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday July 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

resident for most of her life. She started working at the age of 15 as a factory worker in area factories and several retail stores and retired from the Fairfield Public School System. She is survived by her devoted son, Roger Lasky, whom she lived with and
lovingly cared for his mother for the past 20 years, of Fairfield, a sister in law Rose Demeter, of Bridgeport as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and John Demeter and sisters
Patricia Drought and Ethel Dobos. Betty's son and extended family want to thank the staff at both St. Vincent's Medical Center and Bridgeport Hospital for their care and support and for Dr. Lenore Snowden, Rev. Susan Pfeil, and the Sherman School family for

Bryan Charles Wall, age 68, of Black Rock, Connecticut, beloved husband of Arlene Wall, passed away peacefully in his home in the arms of his son Saturday, March 21, 2015 following a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Hitchin-Herts, England, the son of the late Charles Edward and Dorothy Ellen Wall, he had been an area resident since 1974. He was employed as a Senior Account Manager for GE Information Services from 1974 to 1988 and thereafter became immersed in antiques and collectibles specializing in antique toys. He was the proprietor of Toys of Yesteryear Shop in Fairfield, where he enjoyed entertaining fellow collectors and dealers in the shop which was filled with a wondrous assortment of childhood memories. Over the years, Bryan enjoyed riding his moped around his Fairfield Beach neighborhood, taking grand and often eventful road trips in his beloved Buick Roadmaster, and becoming an avid Ebay seller of all sorts of amazing objects. He was a devoted husband and father who delighted in time spent with his family and will best be remembered for his unique sense of humor, kindness, and genuine interest in everyone he met. Survivors in addition to his wife Arlene include two loving sons, Alex Wall of Portland, OR and Chas Wall of Stamford; a brother Alan Wall of Bristol, England; sisters in law Lee Ratta and Helen Wall; nephew Michael Ratta and niece Kirsty Wall. to George and Mary Poole. A graduate of Fairfield High School, Tom was a long time resident of Stratford where he worked as an auto mechanic, prior to his recent move to Florida where he worked at Power Treads Auto Shop in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Tom
was a devoted family man and belonged to The Catholic Church. His greatest joy in life was his son and best friend, Toby Thomas Poole.
Tom’s passions included being an avid fisherman and watching NASCAR. He was known to friends and family
as a Kevin Harvick super fan who never missed a race. Tom had a quick wit, and loved to make people laugh.
Tom is survived by his son, Toby; Toby's mother, Kelly Poole, of Stratford; parents, George and Mary Poole of Indialantic, FL; brothers, George
(Ivette) Poole, III, of Ft. Myers and Russell Poole of Melbourne, FL, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and nieces & nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church,
3050 N. Highway A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903. Tom will be laid to rest at Eau Gallie Cemetery, next to his maternal grandparents, following Saturday’s Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Daily Bread Inc., 815 East
Fee Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32901.

Ettinger, Betty (mother of Laurie)
Age
90, died peacefully April 4, 2014 in Bryn Mawr, PA. She was a resident of Martins Run in Media for three years and spent most of her adult years in Wilmington and Hockessin, DE.
Betty was the co-owner of Bag and Baggage Inc. and B and B Tickettown
for two decades. After retirement she attended University of Delaware's Academy of Lifelong Learning for thirty years. However, it is the roles of adoring Wife, loving Mother, proud Grandmother, and caring friend that she will be best remembered for.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Sig, in 2012, she is survived by her daughters Lynne Shapiro (Alan) of Medford, NJ, Judy Ettinger of Madison, WI and Laurie Ettinger of Wilmington, DE, and her five grandchildren, David Rodenstein, Shanna Brown (Kyle),
Lisa Hicks (Jordan), Betsy Reznikoff (Joe) and Scott Shapiro.
A memorial service will be held Noon, Tuesday April 8, 2014 at the Martins Run Auditorium. 11 Martins Run, Media, PA 19063. Shiva will be observed 7:00 pm Tuesday in the Lodge at
Martins Run.

Lowney, III, William T. (beloved husband of Joan Lowney)
William (Bill) Thomas Lowney, III of Fairfield, CT died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in
his favorite town, Boston, following a brief illness. Born December 13, 1935 in Somerset, MA he was the son of William and Irene Collins Lowney. Bill and his brother Jerome grew up in Somerset where they developed a lifelong devotion to the Red Sox. Bill was
a proud Eagle Scout, carrying his certificate in the front of his wallet all of his life. He graduated from his beloved Notre Dame with a Bachelor of
Arts in history and then received his Master's degree in education and administration from Fairfield University. He taught
as a Brother of the Holy Cross for 10 years in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. Ultimately, he found his calling as an extraordinary, inspired and much-loved teacher of "the crazy eights", teaching Darien public school 8th graders about American history
and leading student trips to explore Washington DC and Boston, MA. Although his own talents were recognized throughout
his career, his students' achievements meant more to him. He married Joan Manning in January 1966 and they raised their family in Fairfield, CT. Bill is survived by his wife, Joan of Fairfield, daughter Meghan of Bridgeport, son Liam and his wife Kerri Spillane
of Marshfield, Massachusetts, and two cherished grandchildren, brother Jerome Lowney and his wife Mickey, sister-in-law Nancy MacFarland and her husband Garth, and brothers-in law John Manning and his wife Joey and Barry Manning and his wife Margie and fourteen
nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Bill was predeceased by daughter Shannon Elizabeth Lowney (12/30/94). An informal Irish send-off in celebration of Bill's life is planned for Sunday September 29, 2013 from 12-4pm at the Jacky Durrell Pavilion,
